About the Moose Jaw & District Sports Hall of Fame

The Moose Jaw & District Sports Hall of Fame (MJDSHF) is dedicated to recognizing the extraordinary contributions and accomplishments of people from Moose Jaw and District, preserving sport history and providing role models for upcoming generations while setting standards for them to aspire to.

The background work for the MJDSHF began a number of years ago when a leadership team of interested community volunteers committed their time and talents to establish the Hall. Over the past three years a serious effort has been made to make the MJDSHF a reality. The concept received official support from the City of Moose Jaw, approval was given by Mosaic Place for the MJDSHF display to be housed at the new arena and the first Board of Directors was elected in December of 2013. The MJDSHF was incorporated as a non-profit corporation in October 2014 and became an affiliate member of the Sask Sports Hall of Fame in March of 2015.

The Board of Directors developed and ratified a constitution and bylaws that would be used to recognize the Moose Jaw & District individuals who have contributed to sport as athletes, builders, or teams. Much of the criteria for identifying the athletes, builders and teams came from the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame, which has been inducting notable sports people since 1966.

To be eligible, athletes must have been Moose Jaw natives or residents at the time they represented their sport with great distinction; builders must have been involved with one or more sports for a minimum of ten years; and teams must have won at provincial or higher level. For their excellence in sports, the inducted members are honoured at an annual induction dinner held at Mosaic Place. Inducted members also have their photographs installed on the MJDSHF display on the McCaig Mezzanine, 2nd Level at Mosaic Place.

The public is invited to participate by nominating athletes, builders, or teams. The applications go before an induction committee and the final approval of the committee’s recommendations must come from the Board of Directors.
